HECHO
Helping Educate Children of Honduras Organization

If We Supply They Can Fly!
Honduras is one of the poorest nations in the western
hemisphere. Children in Honduras need to provide their own supplies and
uniforms if they want to attend school. 1 out of every 4 Honduran children don't get the opportunity to attend school due to their family's inability to purchase a school uniform and basic school supplies. School is a sanctuary for children in Honduras ... it is the place where they dream to achieve and reach their goals of a better life.
We can help! Donations of school supplies or a monetary donations will help give a child the opportunity to receive an education. The most needed school supplies are:
- pencils and colored pencils
- glue sticks, rulers, and scissors
- notebooks (spiral or composition)
- pens and markers
- backpacks (new or gently used)
- sports equipment
- music instruments (new or gently used)
Since 2010 we have been able to send over $8000 worth of school supplies, provided 150 new school desks, and we have purchased school uniforms for more than 350 children. Every year we hope to help even more students.
All supplies and money collected will be sent directly to schools in Honduras in the beginning of January (school starts in February in Honduras). The principal and teachers will distribute the supplies and uniforms to as many deserving children as possible.
About Us
We are all in this together – and we are glad you are visiting our site. This is our online meeting place, where we publicize our mission of a world where every child has the opportunity to attend school and receive an education no matter their family's income level.
History
HECHO was started in 2010 by siblings Josh, Joey, and Daniela, whose mother is a Honduran immigrant. Upon learning from their mother of the everyday struggles children face growing up in Honduras, they realized the need to start an organization that would focus on collecting donated money and school supplies to send to needy school children. The organization is growing every year with the help of family, friends, and volunteers.

Updates:
2018-2019: Scholarships, Medical Kits, and Supplies
HECHO is excited to be working with three schools in the rural areas of Tela as well as Educatodos – Emmanuel, a Middle School in Sabana Grande! With generous donations and another successful Prom Flowers annual fundraiser we held in the Spring, we are be able to provide uniforms, backpacks & supplies, medical kits, blackboards, window screens, and scholarships for high school. At Educatodos – Emmanuel we sponsored 44 middle school students with scholarships to ensure they can attend high school! One of our projects this year includes installing stocked Medical Kits in five separate schools. Look for pictures to be shared after we return from our visits with the schools in August.
2017-2018: Desks, Backpacks, and Supplies
In 2017 we were fortunate to continue our efforts in Honduras at the Vicente Caceres School and Maria Antonia Paz School. We donated 7 kindergarten tables with 10 chairs at each table providing seating for 70 children at Maria Antonia Paz. HECHO funds were also used to install 3 new blackboards in the classrooms. We were also able to donate 30 school desks to the Vicente Caceres.
Using money raised from our fundraisers, we donated more than 100 backpacks to the kids. We also provided school and craft supplies.
*A special acknowledgement to Mike & Kolleen Schrider, The Haddad family, and the Locraft family for their annual backpack donations. These special families provided the majority of the backpacks sent to Honduras in 2017.
*A special thank you to “Mita’s Angels” for their annual contribution to HECHO. Their collective donations enabled us to provide the school desks in 2017.
*A big shout out to Holten Arms School for generously donating sports uniforms to the schools. HECHO helped spread the uniforms to 10 different schools in Honduras!
